Dear Parkland Families,
Our hearts are aching and crying in disbelief over the immense tragedy that has happened this week. It’s not just a news story, it’s your story. It’s your precious loved one who was robbed of their future. It was your dear son or daughter who you have loved, cared for and protected from the very beginning. I know today you are probably replaying every memory, every laugh, every dream you shared, every cry they had as a newborn and every sweet thing they ever said. You may be thinking how can this be my reality? How does this happen to our family? We are grieving for you. We are hurting for you. We want to be there for you.
Grief is a journey where only the starting point is marked. The sting of death hurts beyond what anyone can imagine and unless you have walked it yourself, the feelings are indescribable. I know those days all too well – when you keep thinking there is no way this can be true. But the hot tears come, their place at the table is empty and you enter a vicious cycle of exhaustion because of sleepless nights and overwhelming days.
We acknowledge your pain. You are not forgotten, past the funeral, past the news reports, you are a precious life. Every parent, spouse, sibling, son, daughter, cousin, uncle, aunt and every friend – your loved one is remembered. They are loved and they are honored.
God will carry you, when you feel like you can’t get out of bed again, when you have to walk into their room…He will be faithful and His presence will be your comfort as you walk through the valley of the shadow of death.
We just want you to know that we are with you too.
